These portraits are painted from life. I choose not to work from photographs because I believe the sitter is as involved as the artist in the creation of their portrait. The energy, life and personality a sitter brings to the studio can only be transmitted onto the canvas in conjunction with the painter. The experience becomes a union much like a therapist and client; my job is to watch and record, the sitter's purpose for an hour or two is merely to be.
