I was initially inspired to begin painting this series by the hardworking waitresses in the dining room of The Opinicon, Chaffey's Locks, Ontario. Since the age of nine, I have attended an annual family reunion at this former hunting and fishing lodge. The waitresses, unchanging over the years in their white uniforms and floral aprons, have become a part of my personal history.
My own past work includes waitressing. Having experienced both sides of the scenario, my intent is to create a body of work that celebrates the patience and perseverance of servers, the people they serve and the environment in which they work.
This collection was displayed at the Ottawa Art Gallery in 2005.
